An interview with Dr. Dee Michell, Senior Lecturer at the University of Adelaide, for the project "Care Leaver Activism & Advocacy (Life Stories)". - Here, I discuss a few subjects from my book "My Shitty Life," which describes my horrific childhood in kinship care, my destructive transition to adulthood as a result of growing up with unresolved trauma, my homelessness, and involvement in community service as a Lived Experience Advocate.
I am Advocating for "All" Voluntary Placement Survivors, both Past and Present, demanding that as Survivors of Abuse who lived in Out of Home Care we be granted the “same rights” as Wards of the State and that the National Redress Scheme and the government Stop their Unjust Discrimination against us simply because we were Not institutionalised and formally recognise Voluntary Placement Survivors as Careleavers.
